The height of the most sheer walls, the clinging to tiny handholds and the necessary mental fortitude and self-discipline encompass what we modestly summarize as climbing. It is in fact a very broad concept. For me, rock climbing is simply the supreme discipline of mountaineering.
If one picks out the raisins from the diverse climbing menu, one will inevitably encounter the alpine multi-pitch routes which, often sparingly secured, function as great instructors. This is the world of the big mountains of the Dolomites; Three battlements, Langkofel, Sellastock and further south the giants Monte Pelmo and Civetta. Often the climbs follow the routes of the first mountaineering pioneers who mastered incredibly high challenges with unbelievably poor equipment long ago.
As a customer and mountain guide it is possible to enjoy this colorful menu together; maybe sample a little more from the sport-climbing buffet, or just go bouldering. How about a well-secured multi-pitch route on Lake Garda or perhaps the hearty fare; e.g. an alpine multi-pitch route on the steep walls of the Drei Zinnen?
It is only necessary to tie ourselves into the same rope once, because then we will soon know where the journey should go!
Climbing is a constant trial which means trying many ascents to find the best!
