You cannot walk a path if you
have not become that path yourself.
When the water freezes in the cold season and transforms into a unique spectacle of fragile ice, the ice climber begins digging out his tools. The frozen water demands soulful and skilled climbing; playing with the ice is almost like the courtship of a beautiful woman. The ice climber must be able to confidently handle his equipment, but do so without haste, and must also set the ice tools with ease. Climbing the smooth structure and setting the ice screws requires a free mind and great security in oneself. Each belay is a release and at the same time a longing for what the next pitch will bring.
